The Easy Food Home-Cook Hero Awards final took place in Cooks Academy Cookery School, South William Street, Dublin on Saturday, November 8th. Each of the 30 finalists (three in each category), battled it out in the state-of-the-art kitchens to prepare their creative and tasty dishes for the awaiting judges. Judges were celebrity chefs Catherine Fulvio and Paul Flynn and Managing Director of Easy Food magazine Gina Miltiadou. Judges spent the day tasting dishes and chatting with finalists, and after much deliberating the winners have been chosen and were announced by host Martin King at a black-tie award ceremony in The Shelbourne Hotel, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin on Saturday, November 8th 2014. The Easy Food Home-Cook Hero TV show aired on TV3 on Saturday, November 15th.
The winner of the “Butter me up!” category, sponsored by Connacht Gold, was Eoin Corr presented by Seamus Hannon from Connacht Gold. As winner, Eoin received €1,500 worth of prizes including a weekend break, kitchen appliances, restaurant vouchers, and a hamper of utensils, kitchenware and foodie goodies.
Eoin’s dish not only scooped the Connacht Gold “Butter me up!” category prize – Eoin’s Autumn Streusel Cake impressed the judges most on the day and also won the overall big award on the night, the Easy Food Dish of the Year 2014.
Catherine Fulvio said of the standard of this year’s entries, “This is my fourth year to judge the Easy Food Home Cook Hero Awards and each year the standard increases substantially. I am always amazed and impressed with the confidence of the home cooks in particular the children. There were some real highlights for me today, my outstanding dish of the day was the Autumn Streusel Cake, my only disappointment was that we were served only one slice!”
Paul Flynn said, “Good food at home is so important. It is the building blocks of your life to come, so being here today at the Easy Food Home Cook Hero Awards is a real pleasure. From the budding cooks to the more experienced cooks, it is something everyone can do and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
